The Lowdown on Identifying a Haunting

Published by caraffe at 11:37 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Pretty much everybody has heard of places like graveyards, old houses, and historical sites being haunted. Some people even claim that their house is inhabited by more than just the living. How do you figure out if your house is haunted? Here are a few signs that you have a ghost on your hands.

  • lights changing on and off when the bulbs/fuses/switches are intact
  • faucets turning on and off, toilets flushing by themselves when plumbing is in working order
  • doors opening and closing by themselves
  • smells that seem to come from nothing
  • belongings disappear only to come back later, objects are found where they were not left
  • pets and children may react to seemingly nothing, as they are more sensitive to the paranormal (i.e. - dogs barking at thin air, children talking to someone they claim is there when they’re alone)
  • disembodied voices
  • bad dreams or recurring dreams
  • physically feeling someone touch you when no one is there
  • feeling like you’re being watched
  • cold spots or temperature changes
  • inexplicable shadows, orbs or mists

These aren’t the only signs that you’re being haunted, but it’s a basic list.

Here are the different types of hauntings you may encounter and how they are dispelled from their posthumous dwellings:

  • traditional (intelligent) hauntings: may appear randomly to interact with the living; may be good or evil; said to haunt a place because of unfinished business; can be asked to leave firmly but politely, be told they are dead and to move toward the light, exorcised, or asked why they are still there and helped out
  • speculations: these spirits typically appear as orbs and are assumed to be the spirit of a being who has already passed on; these are undisruptive but can possibly be disposed of by exorcism
  • residual hauntings: when a being who used to live in the building continue to appear and carry out the regular duties they performed when they were still alive; these are usually not interactive; these hauntings aren’t usually disturbing and can be exorcised or asked to leave (the latter if they are interactive)
  • crisis hauntings/messenger hauntings: these hauntings are typically to warn someone of something bad or even good (respectively) that is going to happen; they’ll usually go away once the targeted recipient is warned or the bad event happens or is avoided; if they do not leave, try asking it to leave or exorcism
  • anniversary hauntings: these haunts appear on the date of their death and aren’t usually interactive; they typically go away by the next day and appear but once a year; to get rid of them an exorcism can be held or they can be asked if they are interactive
  • poltergeistsloud and noisy haunts that often disrupt the living; these haunts are a nuisance because they are often extremely annoying or disturbing to the living; exorcism or ordering the spirit to leave is recommended

In order to avoid hauntings in the first place you shouldn’t use things like Ouija boards, séances, tarot cards, or witchcraft in your dwelling. These things are infamous for “opening doors” and allowing spirits into the home. Also make sure that you don’t disrespect the dead or talk about the spirits that may or may not haunt your home. Doing so will anger and/or empower the spirit. When all else fails, a disruptive spirit can most likely be quelled with exorcism. However, don’t take such extreme measures unless the spirits are actually getting in the way of your living a normal life. Good luck and stay safe!

Guy, You need to lighten up on the Background color, and The Dark Print of the Dotten points you are trying to speak about, I can’t read any of it, I am 56 with glasses, just like 75% of the Populous in America. So Please if You want someone to read Your special Blog, lighten up on the Back ground color, or put the Writing in White against the Black, and Make the Print bigger #2 would work.

No need to get upset. When I was managing the color scheme I checked the page by clicking ‘view site’ and saw no problems at the time. I believe I have fixed it this time. Thank you for the feedback.
